Why we built FLRoofPrep
The General Trade Knowledge exam is 80 scored questions in 5 hours, open book, delivered by computer at Pearson VUE on a daily schedule. Being open book is what catches people out. The answer is somewhere in the approved references, but five hours punishes anyone who has to hunt for every one of them. What separates the people who pass is knowing the material well enough that the books only confirm what they already believe. Our 361 practice questions cover all nine content areas in the exact proportions the state publishes — the four 15% areas, Built-Up Roofs, Shingles and Shakes, Single Ply Systems and Modified Roofing Systems, make up 60% of the exam between them and carry the heaviest drill.
The trap nobody warns you about
Roofing is a Division II category, so most candidates sit two exams: this one and Business & Finance. Rule 61G4-16.001(37), F.A.C. requires 70% on each required test, not an average across them, so a strong trade score cannot rescue a weak business one. The exception is worth knowing before you pay for a course you do not need: Rule 61G4-16.0015(3), F.A.C. exempts a current active certified Division I licensee — a general, building or residential contractor — from the Business & Finance portion entirely.

Roofing rules in Florida do not sit still. The Florida Building Code cycles, high-velocity hurricane zone requirements and product approvals are revised, OSHA standards change, and the DBPR periodically updates both the Examination Content Information sheet that sets the content-area weights and the approved reference list that defines what you may carry into the test center. We review our bank against the current content outline and reference list, then revise questions and explanations when a code, rule or weighting changes, so your practice reflects the exam Florida gives today.
