Five hours, 80 questions, a shelf of approved references — and a 70% bar the state applies to each test separately. Candidates rarely fail because the material is beyond them. Roofing is a Division II category, so a certified roofing contractor normally sits two exams: this trade exam and the state Business & Finance exam (120 questions, 6.5 hours). One exception is worth checking before you pay for it — Rule 61G4-16.0015(3), F.A.C. exempts a current active certified Division I licensee from the Business & Finance portion.

Common questions

How many questions are on the Florida roofing contractor exam?
The General Trade Knowledge exam has 80 scored questions with a 5-hour limit, delivered by computer at Pearson VUE test centers on a daily schedule. That is the trade half of the license; roofing is a Division II category, so you also sit the Business & Finance exam of 120 questions in 6.5 hours.
What score do I need to pass?
Seventy percent. Rule 61G4-16.001(37), F.A.C. requires at least 70% "on each of the required tests" — so 70% on General Trade Knowledge and 70% on Business & Finance separately, not an average across the two. Passing one does not carry the other.
Is the Florida roofing contractor exam open book?
Yes, but only with the specific references on the state's approved list, one copy of each. You may highlight and underline, but handwritten notes are not allowed, and writing in a book during the exam is treated as a criminal offense under section 455.2175, Florida Statutes.
How many exams do I need for a Florida roofing license?
Two. Roofing is a Division II category, so a certified roofing contractor sits General Trade Knowledge plus Business & Finance. One exception: Rule 61G4-16.0015(3), F.A.C. exempts a current active certified Division I licensee — a general, building or residential contractor — from the Business & Finance portion, leaving only the trade exam.
How much does the exam cost?
Rule 61G4-12.009(1)(a), F.A.C. sets the application and examination fee at $335: $135 on scheduling, $80 for each test administered, and $40 for processing after you pass. With two tests that is $295 before you pass and $40 after. Confirm current amounts with the DBPR before you apply.
What happens if I fail?
You retake only the test you failed. Rule 61G4-12.009(1)(b), F.A.C. sets the reexamination fee at $135 plus $80 per test. There is no cap on attempts, but you must pass every test within four years of your first attempt or all past scores become invalid and you start over.
Are these the actual exam questions?
No. These are original practice questions written to cover the same nine content areas the state publishes in its Examination Content Information sheet — not leaked exam items.
Does passing here qualify me for the license?
No. This is study practice only. A Florida roofing contractor license also requires meeting the experience, financial responsibility and insurance requirements of Chapter 489, Florida Statutes, and passing this tool does not guarantee passing the state exam.
